3R THURSDAY: Godly Mirror

Paul provides three categories of relationships to the church of Ephesus. See Ephesians 5:22-6:9.

  1. Husband/Wife

  2. Parent/Child

  3. Employer/Employee

Paul’s overarching point is that each of these relationships reflects our relationship with God. In the same way that the Christ loves the Church, Husbands should love their wives. In the same way that the Church submits to Christ, Wives should submit to their Husbands.

Questions to consider:

Husband, are you loving your wife, sacrificing for her, washing her in the Word?

Wife, are you submitting and respecting your husband?

Father, are you discipling your child, bringing them up in the instruction of the Lord?

Child, are you honoring your mother and father?

Employee, are you working to the glory of God?

Employer, are you rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man?

Flip the script:

Church member, are you submitting to Christ?

Child of God, are you honoring your Heavenly Father?

Worker, are you working for the glory of God?

We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

1 John 4:19-21 (NIV)

In this way, the love we have for others reflects the love God has shown us. We are simply mirrors of God’s love.

Mirrors simply reflect. They show us who we are—not who we wish we could be and expect to be. Reality, plain and simple.

But what if the mirror is

Dusty
Dirty
Damp
Decayed
Disheveled
Dilapidated
Dull
Dark?

How well can we reflect the Light and love one another?

The cleaner the mirror, the more we can reflect God’s love for us to others.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 13:34-35 (ESV)

Hope you have a blessed week.
