3R THURSDAY: Do you want to be healed?
Excuses blind us to sin.
What is 3R Thursday?
3R Thursday is a newsletter published every Thursday that contains ruminations, reflections, and readings to encourage Christians in the pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.

Now on to today’s piece 🤝
3R Thursday: Do you want to be healed?
Rumination
Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades. In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.
When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?”
The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.”
Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.”
And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.
Reflection
Excuses, excuses.
This man had been an invalid for 38 years. He always had excuses, too.
No one was around to help him.
But when someone was around, they got in his way.
We hold onto certain sins because they're familiar.
Often times those familiar sins leave us "blind, lame, and paralyzed.”
These sins are the reasons we can remain on the ground even though the healing waters of Christ are next to us.
And sometimes we may walk away from our excused sin only to come back and lay on the ground again (i.e., The Law of Undulation).
We claim all sorts of excuses, but Jesus still asks us:
"Do you want to be healed?"
Strive as we might to delay our healing, Jesus commands us to "get up, take [our] bed, and walk."
We may think we need the healing waters of something else, but we know that Jesus is the living water.
Rather than wait for the perfect timing, situation, person, opportunity, or any other excuse, now is the time to turn from our sin, get up and walk with Jesus.
