Carry the umbrella
3-R Thursday
Rumination
Umbrellas, as defined herein, are systems, infrastructure, and other things we take for granted that enables us to perform our daily tasks. I rely on several "umbrellas" above me, just like my sons rely on me to carry the umbrella for them. God carries the ultimate umbrella, for without the Creator, life would be impossible.
Reflection
Who carries/carried the umbrellas in my life? Parents. In-laws. Church members. Family friends. Teachers. Principals. Mentors. Terry Foundation. University of Texas. Texas A&M University School of Law. Investors. Employers. Co-workers. A legal system that promotes law and order. Police officers and first responders that are a phone call away. Medical professionals that saved our sons' lives.
Municipal water and waste. Electricity and internet providers. Whoever it is that built this house. Built this laptop. Built this desk. Harvested the coffee beans. Roasted the coffee beans. Packaged, shipped, and sold the coffee beans.
The list is endless. The umbrellas continue stacking higher and higher. And thank the Lord that he, in his infinite wisdom, cares for us in so many ways.
I am so quick to blame people that let me down; yet I'm incredibly slow to thank those that hold the umbrellas above me. My goal is to grow my own umbrella to ensure those underneath are protected from the rain just as so many umbrella-holders have done—and are doing—for me.
